Philip offers private guiding as well as courses in rock climbing, which are highly regarded for their exceptional safety and quality standards. You will gain in confidence, in a supportive environment, by learning new skills and techniques from an experienced British Mountain Guide. Courses from half a day taster sessions, to a full five day programme. Philip offers a wide range of courses to suit many different ambitions, whether you are a novice requiring instruction or a climbing instructor progressing to a national award.
Philip will teach you all the basic skills needed to complete climbs in safety. Through a carefully structured programme, you will also have the opportunity to improve your own climbing performance.
This is for mountain enthusiasts wishing to experience some of the Lake District's most famous climbs. These include classics such as Bowfell Buttress or Napes Needle and The Needle Ridge, or the more demanding routes like Kipling Groove on Gimmer Crag or Central Buttress on Scafell. Philip will guide you up the route you've always been meaning to climb.
This is aimed at adventurous walkers who want to leave the footpaths behind them and venture up some of the classic Lake District scrambles, with the security of a Guide. Many famous scrambles may be undertaken: Pinnacle Ridge, Jack's Rake, Sharp Edge, Sphinx Ridge, or a scramble of your own choice. Philip will take care of the safety, leaving you free to enjoy the scrambling.
Leading your first climb can be a nerve wracking experience! A carefully structured programme will introduce you to the techniques of leading, under Philip's watchful eye. He aims to ensure that you leave the course with the skills and confidence to lead climbs of your own.
Administered by Mountain Training UK, this award is aimed at those who supervise groups on single pitch rock climbs. It is now considered an essential qualification for anyone working in outdoor centres or on climbing walls.
This is a very practical two day course covering all you need to know about evacuating yourself and your partner from the crag. You can practice all that you may have read in the books and Philip can introduce a few techniques of his own. A must for all climbers who want to be effective in self-rescue.
