Philip Poole has been an outdoor enthusiast from school days. Twenty years of experience in all forms of mountaineering, culminated in the IFMGA International Mountain Guide's Carnet in 1980. He has climbed all over the UK and Alps with ascents of Alpine North faces such as the Grandes Jorasses, Matterhorn, Cima Ovest in the Dolomites and the Troll Wall in Norway. He has also climbed in many parts of the world including Antarctica, North and South America, Japan, Himalayas and Africa.
He has spent over 15 years guiding clients on ski tours in the Alps including the Haute Route, Otztal and Bernese Oberland. He also runs ice climbing courses to Rjukan, Norway.
For the last 10 years he has been leading expeditions to Greenland to make first ascents of unclimbed summits in areas such as the Watkins Range, Milner Land and the rarely visited and remote Kangerdluggsuaq mountains. In 2007 he led the first known north to south traverse of Liverpool Land and has also led 3 successful expeditions to climb the highest Mountains in the Arctic Circle: Gunnbjørnsfjeld, Dome and Cone.
Philip is also a keen kayaker and caver and has gained qualifications in both disciplines, with kayak descents in Austria and France such as the Inn, Sarna and Durance; caving expeditions to Poland and classic trips down Yorkshire caves near his home in the Lake District.
He is a Technical Expert for a number of organisations including Tangent Expeditions and Impact International, where he has been International Safety Adviser for over 10 years. He holds a NEBOSH qualification in Health and Safety and has guided Impact through AALS Licensing, NGB and industrial health and safety audits.This has been achieved through training staff, providing advice, producing policies and conducting risk assessments. He is also a MLTUK Mountain Leader Award Course Director for Apex Training and has been a Single Pitch Award Provider since the early 90s.
