"Tangent is very lucky to have an exceptional individual like Phil on the staff"
P. M.
Join Philip in making rare ascents of all three highest mountains in the Arctic. Gunnbjørnsfjeld (3693m), Dome (3682m) and Cone (3669m), plus an attempt on a first ascent. The highest peak in the Arctic, Gunnbjørnsfjeld is often referred to as the "8th summit" amongst those wishing to add to their 7 summits challenge.
Philip has a wealth of Greenland guiding experience and is now in his 12th Greenland season. He led the highly successful 2004 and 2009 Watkins Mountains expeditions during which his clients summited all three highest mountains. During this season, Philip climbed Gunnbjørnsfjeld twice in two weeks as well as a number of first ascents in the area. For details of the classic route up Gunnbjørnsfjeld, click here. Philip returned to Greenland in 2004 with the US Navy as Arctic Guide for an expedition to recover the remains of service men from an aircraft which crashed over 40 years ago. Since then he has led expeditions every year to Greenland. In 2007 he led what was probably the first north - south traverse of Liverpool Land and has guided clients on numerous first ascents and ski descents in Milne Land, Knud Rasmussen Land, Kangerlugssuaq Mountains as well as Liverpool Land.
Philip works with Tangent Expeditions who organise the complex logistics required for any Arctic expedition and is now their Technical Adviser. He helped devise the safety management systems to enable them to gain BS8848, the British Standard for overseas expeditions.
