Philip offers ice climbing opportunities in Rjukan, Norway. Ice climbing in Rjukan is justifiably world famous for its wide variety of ice routes ranging from Grade 2 to as hard as you like. With more than 150 ice routes, short approaches, and a very reliable season, the Rjukan valley is a popular destination for ice climbers from all over the world.
Rjukan is less than 200 km from Oslo airport in Norway, making it easily accessible by car or by public transport. Low cost flights leave from many airports in the UK.
Easy access to the climbs and the wide range of grades make this a fantastic place to learn the basics or improve your grade in a stunning setting. Rjukan is also famous for the daring raid on the German heavy water plant at Vermork by British forces, supported by Norwegian freedom fighters which was subject of the film 'Heroes of Telemark'. Many ice routes are situated in the gorge right below the old power plant which is now a museum.
